The Nobel Prize By the Numbers
The Nobel Prize By the Numbers (This post has been updated to reflect the 2017 award.) Established in 1901, the Nobel Prize for Literature has been awarded to over 100 individuals. Its enough of a sample set to tell you something about what they look for. And since the Prize is chosen by the Swedish Academy, a body of 18 members who have seats for life, its safe to say that change happens slowly so you can find long-term trends. There are some that have little to do with numbers. Novelists and poets dominate, though there are playwrights, journalists, historians, and essayists scattered amongst them. Writers with a political bent are common. But if you tried to play the odds this year and were rooting for Murakami or Roth, the numbers could have predicted youd be disappointed. Current average age of the Swedish Academy: 72 Nobel Prizes for Literature Awarded: 114 We talk about the Nobel Prize as if its an global award, but the Academy is made up of Europeans and its focus certainly seems to be on European writers. Nobel Literature Laureates From Europe: 82 (72%) The first 50 years of the prize are almost exclusively European, but any efforts to be a worldwide prize arent terribly effective. Nobel Literature Laureates from Europe in the Last 20 Years: 12 (60%) If you look at the population of the world, the most populous countries are China, India, and the United States. It was pretty much the same 100 years ago. And yet nearly 100 years past without a Chinese winner. Chinese Nobel Literature Laureates: 2 (Awarded in 2000 and 2012.) India is even worse. Its been over a century since India won a Nobel Literature Prize. Indian Nobel Literature Laureates: 1 (Awarded in 1913.) America is doing better. And yet American Nobel Literature Laureates: 10 French Nobel Literature Laureates: 14 (Last awarded in 2014.) Swedish Nobel Literature Laureates: 7 (Last awarded in 2011.) Swedish Nobel Literature Laureates Who Were Also Members of the Swedish Academy Who Voted On Their Own Awards: 2 Thats only nationality, not even considering race and ethnicity. African Nobel Literature Laureates: 4 For an entire continent, its terribly underrepresented. But its worse when you look at race. White African Nobel Literature Laureates: 2 Black African Nobel Literature Laureates: 1 Arab African Nobel Literature Laureates: 1 (Also the only Arab period.) Of North Americas Literature Laureates, all 7 winners up until 1962 were White. There has been some positive change, though. From 1967 to the present, of the 9 North American Laureates only 4 are White. 2 are Black, 2 are Latino, and 1 is Asian. (It can get fuzzy here, Ive chosen to count V. S. Naipaul as being from Trinidad, though many count him as British.) South American Nobel Literature Laureates: 4 (3.5%) While South America has about half the population of Europe, Europe has over 20 times more Nobel Literature Laureates than South America. Then theres the gender issue. Male Nobel Literature Laureates: 100 (87.7%) The first woman to win a Nobel Prize for Literature did so in 1909, within the first decade it was awarded. After that it took 17 years for another woman to win in 1926. Even worse, between 1946 and 1990 (a period of over 40 years) only one woman won a Nobel Prize for Literature; Nelly Sachs, a German poet, won in 1966. And shared the award that year with a man. In the last 20 years theres been positive change, but not positive enough. Only 5 of the Nobel winners in the last 2 decades have been women, thats only 25%. None of this is to say that Nobel Laureates for Literature individually dont deserve their prizes. There are many impressive and important writers around the world, and Nobel winners are talented and lauded. But the heavily white and European focus for the Nobel Prize for Literature says this isnt really a modern prize. This is a prize thats still living in the past, where the Canon is made up mostly of White European Male writers. 64% of prizewinners from over a century of prizes fall into that category. If thats the prize the Nobel wants to be, then we can let it do that. But we need to stop looking to the Nobel as a truly global and diverse prize. The Theory Of The Leisure Class Essay - 1367 Words
The Theory of the Leisure Class, by American economist and sociologist Thorstein Veblen, stands as a testament to both insightful social commentary and an unquestioning dogmatism of its contents in everyday academic discourse verging on the commonsensical. It was written in 1899; a place in history where late capitalism or postmodernity is seldom to be imagined by even the most gifted of social critics. The book, itself, is a treatise on economics and a detailed social critique of conspicuous consumption as a function of both social class and consumerism. It is derived from the social stratification of people and the division of labor, which are the social institutions of the feudal period up until to the modern era. The theme in sociological and economical thinking is the social stratification of tribal and feudal societies upon social and economic utility. To Veblen, the rise of a conspicuously consuming leisure class wasnââ¬â¢t a sign of progress. It was a relic of barbarism, an evolutionary step from feudalism, and, therefore, un-American. The association of luxury with British tyranny and decadence persisted through much of the 19th century. There wasnââ¬â¢t much things to flaunt about in the early stages of the country. The nation had little in the way of dynastic wealth or large enterprises; even slaveholding in the South was crushed by the Civil War. However, by the 1880ââ¬â¢s and 1890ââ¬â¢s, new technologies, like the telegraph, steam engines, railroad, electricity, etc., forged aShow MoreRelatedThorstein Veblens Theory Of The Leisure Class760 Words à |à 4 PagesIn 1890ââ¬â¢s, Thorstein Veblen started the theory of the Leisure Class. Suppresion of Individualââ¬â¢s Creativity Free Essays
Throughout the State of Florida, numerous school boards have been attempting to standardize the clothing that students wear. The school superintendents who are in favor of uniforms will argue that the children who wear them will experience many benefits. I disagree with this position. We will write a custom essay sample on Suppresion of Individualââ¬â¢s Creativity or any similar topic only for you Order Now I feel that the use of uniforms will strip identity, stifle creativity, and unnecessarily burden the families that cannot afford them. The use of uniforms has already been implemented in several long-standing social environments. The penal system uses uniforms to brand those persons who are incarcerated. Likewise, the military also uses them to separate and remove the individualism inside of the soldier. In both cases, individual identity is stripped away and the subject is forced to conform to the same outward appearance as every other subject. Another problem that will surface due to the implementation of school uniforms is the suppression of the individualââ¬â¢s creativity and expression. Many studentsââ¬â¢ express who they are through the way they dress. If a teenager wants to show the rest of the world that he loves Jesus, then he or she might wear a T-shirt that states a positive view on the subject. Similarly, a student might want to wear green colored clothing to show his or her support for St. Patrickââ¬â¢s day. School uniforms would end both of those examples listed within this paragraph and many, many more. The last issue that needs to be addressed is the unnecessary burden that will be placed upon those families of limited resources. Many low-income families do not have the money available to furnish uniforms to their children. They can barely make ends meet with the help of charities and social programs. In Polk County, Florida, the school board is trying to pass legislation that a child cannot attend school unless they have on the proper uniform. An education is supposed to be available to all children, not just the ones whose parents can afford to buy the government ordered attire. I have listed several reasons why the use of school uniforms should not be implemented in Americaââ¬â¢s public education system. Not only will it melt the individual into the mass, but it will also hinder those that are destitute. If the school boards desire to make the use of uniforms mandatory, then they need to issue all of the required equipment, just like the military and the prison systems do. BlackBerryââ¬â¢s mission and goal are, ââ¬Å"to provide solutions for the worldwide mobile communications market, including the software that allows the BlackBerry Smartphone to provide mobile access to email, applications, media and the internetâ⬠(Sampson, 2011, p. 6). To achieve the mission and goal, the company has continued manufacturing and building on its present products. Currently, the company has come up with BlackBerry Z10, which is a Smartphone that accommodates both work and personal applications, helping users to switch from ââ¬Å"their personal space to work space with a simple flick of the fingerâ⬠(Sampson, 2011, p. 12). Product markets and portfolio Sampson asserts, ââ¬Å"Smartphones are still a niche market, though there is huge scope for expansionâ⬠(2011, p. 9). BlackBerry is the second biggest company with respect to sales of Smartphone. In 2011, the company had over seventy million customers across the globe. BlackBerry focuses mainly on the Indian market. Indian society is highly differentiated. Therefore, demand for BlackBerryââ¬â¢s products varies in the market. High demand for BlackBerry Z10 and other products in the commercial sector and colleges makes the company focus on the two market segments. BlackBerryââ¬â¢s market can be largely split into two segments; the rural and town markets. The two markets vary significantly with respect to demands, requirements, fiscal orientation, and inevitability of the customers. In 2011, the companyââ¬â¢s total revenue was $3.4 billion (Sharma et al., 2012). BlackBerry offers solutions to numerous functionalities, which range from instant messaging, e-mails, intranet applications, voice, to internet browsing. Its portfolio includes, ââ¬Å"software development tools, BlackBerry wireless solution, the BlackBerry wireless handheld product line, and other software and hardwareâ⬠(Sharma et al., 2012, p. 17). The companyââ¬â¢s product line includes Smartphone, business software, BlackBerryà ®, tablet, PlayBookTM and accessories. Its products and services are in high demand across the globe. Core competencies Hoang argues, ââ¬Å"BlackBerryââ¬â¢s future does not lie on its capacity to tackle its rivals head-on. Instead, the company needs to focus on its core competences, namely the blackberry backend and corporate securityâ⬠(2012, para. 1). The manufacture of BlackBerry Z10 affirms the companyââ¬â¢s core competence in guaranteeing corporate security. Through the Smartphone, the company is capable of providing security solutions to institutions that are in dire need of secure business communication. The company has experienced personnel, who are able to develop firewall that guarantees secure transition from work to personal applications when using BlackBerry Z10. This implies that BlackBerry enjoys unparalleled data security capabilities as its core competence (Hoang, 2012). Strengths and weaknesses Many users commend BlackBerry Company for its development of BlackBerry Z10. This latest model of Smartphone has numerous strengths compared to its earlier models. One of the strengths of BlackBerry Z10 is its capacity to systematize calendar and message information (Howitt, 2013).Advertising We will write a custom report sample on Z10 Marketing Plan specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The phone allows users to amalgamate their text messages, e-mails, and social messages under a single folder. Besides, one is capable of accessing all the messages promptly. Indeed, the phone allows users to access crucial and tailored information efficiently. Another strength of BlackBerry Z10 lies on its touch keyboard. BlackBerry Z10 has a well organized and easy to use keyboard. Besides, the phone has predictive text mode, which enhances typing speed and accuracy. BlackBerry Z10ââ¬â¢s hardware is capable of handling the latest operating system. Consequently, one is capable of opening numerous applications without challenges (Howitt, 2013). Despite the numerous strengths, BlackBerry Z10 has a number of weaknesses. The phone does not have a hard button that helps users to switch from an application to the home screen. Consequently, it takes long to switch from an application to the home scree n as one has to swipe continually. Another weakness of this Smartphone is that it gives users a lot of problems when multitasking. The absence of a hard button makes it hard for users to switch from one application to another (Howitt, 2013). Marketing environment PEST environment Political BlackBerry enjoys a steady political environment in the United Statesââ¬â¢ market, which helps it to increase its market share. A recent study by Nielsen revealed that the introduction of BlackBerry Z10 into the American market gave the company a competitive edge (Reed, 2010). However, BlackBerry encounters challenges in Indian, Chinese, and United Arab Emiratesââ¬â¢ markets where consumers doubt security capabilities of the Smartphone. Economic Economic features influence the mobile phone industry since consumers purchase phones based on income. The recent economic crisis posed a major threat to the introduction of BlackBerry Z10. Today, consumers have to be sure that the price of a Smartph one equals its capabilities (Reed, 2010).Advertising Looking for report on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Besides, variations in exchange rates across the globe are likely to affect the price of BlackBerry Z10, making it either competitive or extremely expensive. Social Social aspects like lifestyle, education, and cultural values affect the sales of BlackBerry products. The company makes substantial sales during the holidays. One of the social aspects that are likely to affect the sales of BlackBerry Z10 is the increased use of BlackBerry Smartphones by antisocial individuals. This might affect the companyââ¬â¢s sales performance in religiously receptive countries (Reed, 2010). Technology Technological changes affect BlackBerry products significantly. However, introduction of BlackBerry Z10 into the market is likely to help the company to increase its sales volume as the technology used to manufacture the Smartphone is environmental conscious (Reed, 2010). Key competitors Nokia and Apple companies are the key competitors in the Smartphone market. The two companies focus on urban mar ket where demand for Smartphones is high. Many consumers have confidence and are loyal to Nokia and Apple companies. Hence, the companies are guaranteed of a steady market. Nokia is renowned for excellent customer services, which has made it dominate the market for decades. The major weakness of the two competitors is that they do not have Smartphones that can handle contemporary business applications (Sharma et al., 2012). Hence, many consumers are turning to BlackBerry Z10, which has numerous functionalities and supports contemporary applications. Customer environment Presently, BlackBerry serves a differentiated market that is made up of two segments; urban and rural segment. The urban segment comprises of professionals and businesspersons who make their purchasing decisions depending on the value of the product. Individuals in this market segment purchase a product after they are sure that it will add value to their businesses or careers (Sharma et al., 2012). On the other hand, BlackBerry serves the rural market segment that comprises of customers, who make decisions based on affordability, battery life, connectivity, and network expansion of the Smartphone. Consequently, BlackBerry has a potential market growth in the urban segment, especially with the introduction of BlackBerry Z10, which meets the majority of their needs. Product and marketing strategy One of the marketing strategies that BlackBerry uses to position its BlackBerry Z10 Smartphone is product differentiation. The Smartphone has BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) functionality, which differentiate it from others (Sharma et al., 2012). BlackBerry Messenger is software that allows users to send and receive instantaneous messages. The company uses this functionality to target the high-end urban market segment, which demands a Smartphone capable of reducing the time they take to communicate with business associates or clients. BlackBerry uses factors like demands, customer needs, and financial orienta tion to segment its market. Marketing mix BlackBerry applies the 4Ps marketing mix to enhance its competitiveness in the global market. The company focuses on product functionalities as one of its brand positioning strategy when developing BlackBerry Z10. The company has also increased the number of applications that the Smartphone supports (Hein, 2009). Therefore, consumers can now use BlackBerry Z10 to execute numerous applications efficiently. BlackBerry Z10 uses, ââ¬Å"Hub and Balance features as its key differentiators from other devicesâ⬠(Wagner, 2013, para. 6). BlackBerry uses varied pricing mechanisms to capture different market segments. To cater for all customers, the company has Smartphones, which vary in functionalities and prices. Many customers shy away from purchasing Apple brands due to price. They prefer BlackBerry because it sets its prices based on the features and value of the product. The main target group for BlackBerry Z10 comprises of professionals and businesspersons who are not price sensitive (Wagner, 2013). Hence, BlackBerry is at liberty to set its price at a level that corresponds to the capabilities of the gadget. BlackBerry runs numerous advertisement programs to promote its products. Recently, the company launched a ââ¬Å"keyboard challengeâ⬠advertisement that seeks to portray BlackBerry Z10 as the Smartphone with the best keyboard in the market (Wagner, 2013). Besides, it liaises with its business associates in promoting Smartphones. For instance, the company, in collaboration with CellOne lowered the price of BlackBerry Z10 from $599 to $399 as one of its promotional strategies. Besides, the company allows its clients to trade their old BlackBerry Smartphones with Z10 at lower charges. To reach many customers, BlackBerry Company liaises with numerous distributors (Wagner, 2013). For example, the company works with Mainline (a mobile phone distributor firm) to distribute its BlackBerry Z10. Mainline helps the com pany to get dealers who supply the Smartphone to local outlets, thus helping the company to reach remote customers. References Hein, K. (2009). Finagle a Bagel Marketing Mix Essays
Finagle a Bagel Marketing Mix Essays Finagle a Bagel Marketing Mix Essay Finagle a Bagel Marketing Mix Essay Suburban stores are totally different. You really have to have an owner/ operator mentality. You have to be mature and you have to be able to run the business like its your own business. What we always try and convey or sell to people who might join our company is, If you want to be a franchisee but dont have the capital, if you want to own your own business, were goanna put you in business. You dont have to give us any money to do that. And if you can get over a certain level of sales or profits, well start splitting the bottom line with you in some sort of bonus program. My name is Nick Cochran, Im a general manager and I work in Waylaid location, which is in Waylaid, Massachusetts. Im 23, and ah which is pretty young. I started off when I was even younger actually, 15 and a half. Started off working for Burgesss Bagels, making bagels and I started out there as a sandwich person and moved up to cashier and kept learning, wanted to be a baker, wanted to be a manager, Ana I name up Walt a isnt-supervisor position. I think being younger, as a manager, in Finagle a Bagel truly helps me because it gives me the stamina and power to work long days. The title is Store manager/ : Partner of your specific location. And the only difficult thing sometimes is trying to empower people who are much older than me. We have a we call it an Incentive Compensation Bonus Plan, ICC Plan. The base-salary for general managers generally starts off in a company with $35,000. And as you go through time you would get certain raises, and we actually have a salary cap in the company where no general manager can make over $42,000 in a particular year for a base-salary. What will however change as you time accrues with the company is your percentage in that Incentive Compensation Plan. Thank you very much. Its goanna be number 72 at the end, okay? (male #5) I strive more for my managers to bonus than for me to bonus. Its important that they bonus because it shows individual Goals and individual stores doing well. Lets say your monthly salary was $4,000, you could get 30% of that which would be $1200 in a bonus if you were to meet your expectations. As time grows on with the company, your bonus could be at 80% of your $4,000. (Tony Premier) I fight for my managers to bonus, because if they bonus it Just means that, you know, theyre goanna look at that check and theyre goanna say, Damn, I did well this month. And whatever I did this month, I have to repeat next month and I Just have to do a little bit better and Ill get a bigger check. And so, you know, I feed off of them, you know? I mean I feed off their happiness. I feed off of their Job well done. When I do bonus, you know, its a win-win. I mean its a win-win for everybody, its a win-win for Finagle, its a win-win for me, its a win-win for my stores because in the end were all trying to accomplish something which is to grow this company and we all want to grow as individuals as well. Cochran) I think its a good way, in essence, because youre not paying the people ho sit around and do nothing. But rather, youre paying the people that who have A. ) been with the company for a while, and B. ) go out and work hard to get in that them extra customers and take time to make sure that the actual profits are coming through in order so they get a share of the business. (Trust) Nick Cochran is a manager, came to us as an assistant manager, he p icked up on the passion and the direction of the company very quickly. And he is one of our most successful managers and his ability to understand the level of customer service thats required in a community like Waylaid, or any suburban community or affluent immunity is phenomenal. And he has done wonders for our business there. He is adored by the town. He gets invited out to dinner by the customers. (Paulo Premier) Im from Portugal, a little country in Northern Europe. I came to the unlace states In / came In as a young 10 1 1, trying to 00 Engels as second language, an intensive course of English for six months. I liked it and Ive been here since. Trust) Paulo is a businessman. He really understands how to run a business and his greatest talent is taking a store that is struggling for whatever reason, and turning it around, making it very, very efficient. His sandwich makers know what to do. His cashiers know how to handle people. People know where to be. He could walk into a store and in three months he can take a store that isnt making the kind of money it should make, or moving the people that it should be moving through and he can turn it around by Just getting people to tow the line, if you will. Tony Premier) Its all about motivation, its all about how you treat people. This is a people-business and you know our people and the people we serve every day. Were not goanna abandon people because they run into issues, either personal or professional. I mean, we like to give people second chances and we like to work with people. You know, we want people to feel like theyre welcome here and want to work for us. We dont want to force anybody to stay here, we want them to stay on their own. But we want to make an open-door policy and we want to have people be successful. Cause their success is again, is our success. You know, the better they do, the better we do. I think luckily and maybe with a little experience, Ive always been able to have a good eye to be enabled to hire good people. I sit down with someone, I talk to them for maybe 20 minutes-half hour, Where have you worked before? How long you worked there? How do you feel about working with people? You know, What kind of experience do you have? And that sort of thing. My philosophy is, you know, youre pretty much goanna tell me how much youre worth. You work for me for a few days, and if you like the Job and if I like your work, then well go from there. But pretty much every person makes his own salary, you know, you tell me how much youre goanna be worth over a period of maybe five, six days. Pretty much thats all the time that I need to see if a person is goanna be worth the trouble or not. And so we go from there. My name is Washington Ramose, Ive been working for the company for four years. My job really is I hire, I fire. Take care of ordering and my direct boss is Tony. Hes mostly here to help out on the things that we need, like say, if Im short people and I cant find anybody I can call him, hell try to get people from other stores. Or if I messed up on an order of food or whatever I need and I cant get out to get it, I can give him a call, hell get it for me. You know, once in a while he can give us a raise. Every one of these stores we have a sign, a Help Wanted sign. So people come in and we always get them to fill out an application so we always have applications. Because in this business, you know, its in-and-out, a lot of times, you know, especially ten rotenone. Especially ten part-timers. Nine Tulle-tellers are usually teen to nag to them, they stay longer. We actually have a very good training program within the company. Like if I hire somebody, I dont actually train them here. We have a couple trainers that will train them for a while, will teach them the whole routine, go through our book, what the company wants and what the company likes as far as the way the uniform looks and the way they treat the customers, and, you know, our rules. For every single full-time new hire they have a grace period, they have to wait six months in order to have health or dental benefits. Finagle a Bagel offers a tuition reimbursement for managers or other employees but they have to submit the course description to our HRS department, Heather Robertson, our director, she will look at and determine if that course is something that will benefit Finagle a Bagel. (female #4) In the last few months weve placed a few ads for people to Join the marketing apartment here and one of the requirements that we post in the ad itself is you must love bagels. And thats really how I weed out the resumes. If they say anything about bagels, I put it in the To be considered pile. If they do not mention a love of bagels, then it goes in the other pile. (Trust) We have a very diverse culture here. Boston has a lot of ethnic groups. We have people from Cape Verve, from Brazil, from Dominican Republic, from El Salvador, Chile, all the Latin nations. We have Americans, we have Europeans, men and women at all levels of the organization. The executive group is made up of an equal number of men and women which were very proud of. H, my names Implied Rosa. I work in Finagle a Bagel for six years and I work in a cashier, and Im from Dominican Republic. I feel so happy for working here with everybody, my friends, the customers, Im so happy. (Trust) English is not the first language of many of the people who work in the stores and some customers find it Frustrating to communicate. The ability to speak more than one language, in this company, is important because our workforce, and you know, most of the people that apply for work are either current immigrants or friends f people that Just came in. I mean, they all have a connection and they dont speak English that well and they need an opportunity. In my Job, as well as most of our managers, most of our managers speak both Portuguese and English and Spanish. Its important for us to be able to communicate with them cause that way we can address their needs. We try very hard to encourage our employees to only speak English to the customer. Some people find that to be a little harsh, but every sandwich, every salad is built to order, so theres a lot of communication between the customers and the cashiers, the customers and the sandwich makers, customers and the managers and the expectation is that everybody will communicate in English. We are very proud of those individuals who have come to this country and have worked very hard to get enema Ana weve treble to Nell teen. We nave several employees won we sponsored them to get their green cards. We in turn, get a dedicated employee and somebody who we know that understands the passion and the desire that we have for the company to be successful. And once we get them on board, people dont leave our company, they Just stay. They legalize that it can be a career for them, they may come to us as a college student thinking to earn a little extra money in between classes, maybe to pay a bill or two, but they come on board, they get excited about what theyre doing and they stay. And I think the size of our company has made a big difference in retaining people, its really unusual to have one-on-one interaction on a daily basis with the president of the company or any senior executive member of the company. We have tons of people that have been here-been with us for a long time.

If You Had a Magic Wand Ice Breaker for Adults
If You Had a Magic Wand Ice Breaker for Adults If you had a magic wand and could change anything, what would you change? This is an icebreaker that opens minds, considers possibilities, and energizes your group when the discussion is dead. Its perfect for a classroom full of adults, a corporate meeting or seminar, or any group of adults gathered to learn. Ideal Size: Up to 20, divided into larger groups. Time Needed: 15 to 20 minutes, depending on the size of the group. Materials Needed A flip chart or whiteboard, and markers if you want to record the results, but this will depend on your topic and reason for playing. It isnt necessary. A fun wand of some kind to pass around would add to the fun. You can usually find one at a hobby shop or toy store. Look for Harry Potter or fairy princess merchandise. Instructions for Use During Introductions Give the magic wand to the first student with instructions to give his or her name, say a little something about why they chose your class, and what they would wish for regarding the topic if they had a magic wand. Example introduction: Hi, my name is Deb. I wanted to take this class because I really struggle with math. My calculator is my best friend. If I had a magic wand, Id have a calculator in my head so I could do math instantly. Instructions for Use When Discussion Dries Up When youre having trouble getting your class to participate in discussion, get the magic wand out and pass it around. Ask students to share what they would do with a magic wand. If you think your topic should be eliciting creative responses from your students, but isnt, keep the magic on the topic. If youre open to a little fun and craziness to liven things up, open the magic to anything at all. You might produce some laughter, and laughter heals almost everything. It definitely energizes. Debriefing Debrief after introductions, especially if you have a whiteboard or flip chart to refer to, by reviewing which magic wishes will be touched on in your agenda. If used as an energizer, debrief by asking the group to discuss how their magic wishes can be applied to your topic. Encourage wide open thinking. The sky is the limit. Sometimes two seemingly different ideas can be combined to create a great new thought.
